Introducing Management and Communication Practices
| |||
|
The development sector is not unique. Communication,
transparency and accountability are equally
important in extracting industries and other private
businesses. And the challenges and tools for solutions
are very similar. This was the conclusion of the seminar on how civil society and communication can strengthen transparency and accountability. The seminar was held at the European Development Days in Stockholm October 22-24 2009. Participants were Anna Chifangula, Auditor General in Zambia and representatives from Revenue Watch, Green Advocates in Liberia, Bearingpoint and Global Reporting. A Cooperation Between Global Reporting and Bearingpoint
| BearingPoint has primarily worked with operational excellence in the private sector in Europe, USA, Latin America and Asia. Global Reporting has amassed experience in hands-on strategic communication in development processes as well as empowerment by communication in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe. By joining hands and combining theories and practises from fields | that traditionally have been far apart we aim to
stimulate a debate and present a new approach to
development cooperation management.

VIEWS ON TRANSPARENCY
| More than 50 people gave their view on transparency on this website. Louis Mwansa, Director Planning and Information at the Zambian Auditing Commission, wrote: “Communication is fundamental to the issues of transparency. However, | Europe ought to communicate both the positive and negatives about Africa. Currently, one gets the impression that there is only communication on the negative. In this way, transparency is defeated. |

To me it is just as important that people in power find ways to look into what grassroot people are doing, inform themselves about what is happening in "real reality". //Marie
